WsTransferClient.Put throwing ArgumentNullException

I'm using the WsTransfer client directly in my app, and for whatever reason the code below is failing:

IContextManager contextManger = ((IClientChannel)channel).GetProperty<IContextManager>();
contextManger.Enabled = false;

contextManager is null which means the subsequent contextManager.Enabled call throws an ArgumentNullException. Everything seems to work fine if I just ignore this, but, I'm not clear on what impact this might have. This is how the request is created:

PutRequest request = _requestFactory.CreatePutRequest(transaction);
PutResponse response = _wsTransferClient.Put(request);

should "contextManger.Enabled" be "contextManager.Enabled"?
